The Flea By John Donne

The poem by John Donne is ideals example of the metaphysical poetry written by John Donne . This poem deals with the theme of love but the image which the poet employees the flea is take from the field of biology , the flea is a small insects which suks blood from human body. This insect is used here as a theme for the expression of love.
The poem is addressed by the lover to his beloved and through  this addressed the poet tries to request his lady love not to reject his proposal. The lover goes on proposing and every time. It is rejected by the lady . The lover manshions that both have become one in the form of that flea. The flea first sucked his blood then her blood and in this manner both have become one. The lover tries to convince her saying that whatever is denied by her has already happened in that flea. The lover request her not to kill that flea. If she kills it, it would be killing three live .Life of the flea, his life and her. It would be a big scene for her. The lover knowns that  she is always willing to kill but why should she kill herself ? He tries to make her aware of the fact that self murder is big scene.
The lady does not follow his request  making the colour of  her nail purpal.the lover admits that the flea was guilty because of his guilty blood. Only her portion of blood was not guilty. The lady believe that she had not become weaker. Even  when two bloods became one in that flea. The lover once again request her fears are false. The lover is of the opinion that if she accepts his love it would bring honour to falling in love is  not a sin or an act of shame on contrary . It brings honour to a person.the present poem can be considered an experiment made by John Donne because a poet uses hardly a biological Image to deal with the theme of the love.

Sweetest love by john Donne

The present poem of John Donne deals with the theme of the love in which the lover adresees to his beloved. It is poem about the lovers emotion when it is time for him to separate himself from his beloved on account of her forth coming death. The lover is of the opinion that those who have truly can never be separated even by death .The poem opens with the lovers clarification that he is going away from her not because he is tired of her or because of your hope that he will be able to find a better person than his beloved than his beloved. The only reason why he is going away  from her is his death. Lover accepts his physical death as a joke and a fake death. His real death would take a place only if he stops loving her but that would never happen  and so in reality he would never die. The lover gives on example of the sun. The sun which went away. The previous night has comeback again though the sun bother sense nor desire to comeback compared to that he has both  sense and desire so he would  make his journey speeder than the sun and he will come back the next day.
The lover comments on futility of human power saying that  man cannot  add even one hour more to his happy time . Man cannot bring  back his happy days once those days are over. The lover is not affraid of his death and at the same time he tells her not to be affraid of his going away. He is ready to accept his physical death without any hesitation.
The lover request her not to sigh or weep because when she sighs it is not the air but his soul which comes out .When she weeps it is not tears but his blood comes out if she waste his soul and blood in this manner he would come to conclusion that she does not love him as she claims.
The lover of this poem believes that her fear may come true and she may die after his death but it would give them a chance to remain side by side in their grave. So death would become a chance to be in company once again. It is firm belief of the lover that those who have truly never part.
The present poem is a good example of Donne's metaphysical poetry. It employees image like the sun, wings,destiny, and divining heart giving a  metaphysical touch to his poem.

"The Blessed Damozel" BY Gabrieal Rosetti

"The Blessed Damozel" is beautiful in that if flows so easily from one line to the next and it seems, although it is not very apparent, that Rossetti filled it with symbolism and references to his own personal feelings and future life.

The first few stanzas tell of how the Damozel is in heaven overlooking earth and thinking of her lover. Rossetti writes in stanza three of how time to the Damozel seemed to last forever because she was without her love. "To one it is ten years of years..." There are a few stanzas in the poem where the narrative jumps to her lover. In stanza four, it is the lover on earth talking about his beloved. The next few stanzas describe heaven, where it lies, and other lovers reuniting around her as she sits and watches...alone.

 In stanzas ten and eleven, her earthbound lover describes the sound of her voice like a bird's song which tells the reader that not only is he thinking of her, but it hints he can hear her and feel her about him. Of course, she can not understand why she must be miserable in heaven when all others are with their loves, after all, "Are not two prayers a perfect strength?" (stanza 12). In stanza thirteen, she dreams of the day that they will be together and present themselves in the beauty and glory of God. It is also in this stanza that Rossetti lets the reader know that she has not yet entered heaven. She is at the outer gates of the kingdom of heaven.
Through the second half of the poem, the Damozel refers to herself and her lover as "we two" and describes how they will be together again someday in heaven. The Damozel even says she will teach him the songs that she sings...and she dreams of them together. It is in the next stanza,, that the narrative changes again back to the lover. He says that she keeps on saying "we two" but when and will they ever really be together like they used to be. Rossetti is using the Damozel in these few stanzas to describe how the Damozel would want her ideal and perfect love to be, but could that really be with her in heaven and him on earth? The two worlds separating them doesn't keep them apart in thought, but it is not possible to be together. In stanza twenty-two, she once again says that she will want their love to be as it was on earth with the approval of Christ the Lord.
Near the end of the poem, in the last couple of stanzas, the Damozel finally realizes that she can have none of this until the time comes. The Damozel suddenly becomes peaceful and lets the light take her in stanza twenty-three. It is there that the reader also realizes that she will enter heaven without her love. Her lover on earth, of course, knows this and it is there in the last stanza that "I saw her smile...I hear her tears." Apart, but together in hearts, the two are separated by two worlds so great that there is nothing that can be done but hope and pray. And that is why the Damozel "laid her face between her hands, And wept."
       From the gold bar of Heaven;
Her eyes were deeper than the depth
       Of waters stilled at even;
She had three lilies in her hand,
       And the stars in her hair were seven.

The painter's choices and inclusion of detail also connect with his descriptive stanzas and illustrate the overall mood of the poem. "The Blessed Damozel" contains three different vantage points: that of the the Damozel's from heaven, the lover's from his memories and fantasies, and the lover's from his current consciousness. This last voice is indicated by parentheses, which separate the lover's earthly thoughts from the Damozel's reflective musings. By painting the Damozel on the upper portion and her beloved on the lower, Rossetti clearly demonstrates this spatial separation. He also emphasizes the fact that while this separation does not allow them to be together physically, it cannot keep them apart in their thoughts. In lines 37-42, the Damozel observes,
Around her, lovers, newly met
       'Mid deathless love's acclaims,
Spoke evermore among themselves
       Their heart-remembered names;
And the souls mounting up to God
       Went by her like thin flames.

Here the Damozel questions why she cannot be with her beloved in Heaven when all others are with their loves. "Have I not prayed in Heaven? — on earth, Lord, Lord, has he not pray'd? / Are not two prayers a perfect strength?" she asks. Rossetti paints other ethereal lovers in various forms of embrace behind her, using warm, luminous tones to create a vision of idealized love in a glorious Heaven. However, this inclusion also contrasts and highlights the Damozel's unhappy and tragic situation. He also distinguishes this depiction of Heaven by using darker muted greens and browns to paint Earth. Throughout the poem, the Damozel dreams of the day when she and her beloved will be reunited and present themselves before God. In lines 125-132, the Damozel describes how her ideal love will be approved:
And angels meeting us shall sing
To their citherns and citoles.
'There will I ask of Christ the Lord
Thus much for him and me: —
Only to live as once on earth
With Love, — only to be,
As then awhile, for ever now
Together, I and he.'

Despite her hopes and prayers, the Damozel eventually realizes that she cannot be with her beloved until the right time comes and that she shall be enteringHeaven without him. The Damozel "laid her face between her hands, And wept" while her lover on Earth "hears her tears." They remain apart, yet together in their hearts, separated by the two worlds. As a member of the PRB, Rossetti did not focus on biblical or typological symbolism with the intensity of William Holman Hunt. While "The Blessed Damozel" includes obvious references to biblical imagery, such as the allusion to God and Mother Mary, Rossetti does not seem to be as interested in religious symbolism in his painting. Instead, he creates a dreamy vision of Heaven full of angels, flowers and lovers — but one that still separates the two tragic lovers. In his painting, Rossetti seems to utilize the Damozel's place in Heaven and her concerns with God's grace in order to emphasize and glorify the spiritual depths of the feminine soul.

The Dream by john Donne

This poem juxtaposes emotion of love in dream and in reality it is poem about the lover experience of love in a dream which he finds more warmed than the experience of love in reality. It is poem about comparison of love in a dream and in reality the conclusion that the lovers arrives at is that is that love in dream is  more pleasing experience compared to reality.
The poem begins with the lover confession that in his dream. He loves his beloved more than her loved for herself. Their is an image of his beloved inscribed in his heart and he moves with it as if it were a medal. The lover compares it with a coin just as the impression of the king gives value to a coin , the same way her image in his heart gives value to his life. The lover find dream more acceptable because during dream the sense of honour does not bother him .The lover knows that honour weakness spirit of a person who is in love. Since honour restrains a person,the person has to restrain his emotion of love.
The lover discribes what happens with him when the dream is over.the joy which he experiences in meeting his beloved in a dream is  more fantastical than joy in real meeting. The joy in dream is convenient and balanced. That is the reason why the lover would like to meet her again and again in dream .That dream provides him with an escape from harsh reality and pain of life.
In the concluding stanza of the poem the lover informs how he would like to react to his own dream when he gets up. The lover is not willing to repent for his meeting with his beloved in that dream. He would like to pass his time by writing more sonnets on his beloved. He doesn't want to west his life in tears, pains and honour. The lover requests his dream to stay for some more time because true joy act it's best can be experienced only in dream.
The present poem of John Donne uses certain far fetched images giving it a metaphysical touch. The image of coin with the impression of king on it to describe his heart is the best example of it. John Donne through this poem conveys a message that love in dream has more charming effect than love in real life.

Death be not proud By John Donne

John Donne's holy sonnet deals with the theme of the death. The poet in this sonnet chakkanges authority of death saying that there is no need for any human being to be afraid of death.death is generally considered to be mighty and dangerous but in reality it is neither mighty nor dangerous.death thinks that when it gows to a person it throws away that person but in reality that person does not die. The poet tells death that it  has capacity even to kill him. According to the poet the picture of death is nothing but sleep  and rest. Sleep and rest generally give joy to a person since that is function of death, pleasure should derived.
The poet addressing to death manshions the even the best people sooner or later go with death why should then he afraid of death? Death offered rest to human body and soul is transformed to another body. Death is slave of fate, chance, king and a man  who is in distress . There are three residing places of death namely poison, war and sickness.
Death  performed same function which is performed by charms of mother. Mother lives causes sound sleep to a child and in the same manner death also causes sleep to a  person.  There is no  need for death to be proud after every sleep person gets up. Death  is accepted in this manner death, death  no more remain death but it dies away.
The present sonnet of Donne conveys a message that to a mankind how death should be treated without considering it. Mighty or dangerous.
